CLA Mentoring program -  Wanted Mentors and Mentorees for the 2009 program

If you would like to participate either as a Mentor or Mentoree please complete the Expression of Interest and email direct to maxwilson@cla.org.au.

Background

On Thursday 14 July the Commercial Law Association of Australia launched it's pilot mentoring program in Sydney. The launch of the pilot program in July 2006 was the culmination of 12 months of detailed research and analysis. From 2007 the Mentoring Program has become an integral component of the CLA's member services.

Program design

The CLA's mentoring program is designed not to compete with any members existing programs. The Association through its broad range of members is able to offer new graduates a range of mentoring experiences. Ultimately, the profession can only be further enriched through the strengthening of mentoring either within a formal program supported by the agency, or between two individuals who agree to establish a mentoring relationship.

Bridge between Commerce and Law

'The CLA has always promoted its role as being a bridge between Commerce and Law. The introduction of an association-mentoring program provides an opportunity to further strengthen our credentials in linking those involved in Commerce and Law in a practical program, said Kalinda, Cobby'.

Differences between Association and Employer programs

Participation in an association wide mentoring program has a number of differences to that of an employer -based program. The emphasis in an employer- mentoring program is usually learning about the firm and gaining important insights from experienced practitioners. The CLA's program provides a point of difference in that Mentorees may be attracted to the idea of gaining an insight into broader areas of law and commerce.
